Okay it's time for a proper entry that doesn't involve concert setlists or degustation menus. When Jo was overseas I'd write in here at least once every shift cycle- regailing you with unnecessary details of nights that carried on long past when they should have. Is it a newfound sympathy for my readership (of at most 3) that has stopped me from capturing such details and in doing so at least providing an outlet for regular writing? I can't truly claim not to have time when I spend significant amounts of time on quiz sites trying to recall every song released by the Beatles in 15 minutes without consulting my CDs.

So let's start this entry with a good old fashioned "what I got up to last night". Today is Lucy's 29th birthday (Happy Birthday Lucy if you're reading this- if you're not I'll have to revise my estimated readership) so last night Lucy, Fi, Marty, Jo and I had dinner just down the road at Cafe New Deli. It was the first time in more than a year that Jo didn't have to count her drinks, but more on that later, so we enjoyed some red and rose with our pate and pork belly. There was some talk of the Townie, but Fi got her way and we had a drink at the Exchange instead, before it closed at the obscenely early time of 11pm on a Saturday night. Again there was some consideration of the Townie, before Lucy had the ingenious idea of Singstar at my place. I'm not being sarcastic- it was a brilliant idea. I got Jo Singstar a year-and-a-half ago because she enjoyed it so much whenever we did it at Kim and Marty's, but in that time we've used it a total of once, and then only so we could say we'd used it (it was just Jo and I on a Friday night).

So it was Black Russians, infused vodka, bad tequila and equally bad renditions of gems such as "Ice Ice Baby", "Heaven is a Place on Earth" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World amongst many, many more.

And that was my Saturday night.

Back to Jo not counting her drinks. The last time I wrote anything of substance in here we were heading back to the doctor to see whether Jo could stop taking blood thinners. That was 6 months ago, and on that occasion due to a slightly elevated reading of a particular protein in a blood test, the decision was to be conservative and wait another 6 months. The frustrating part of all that was that during the appointment (which I went along to) everything sounded very positive, it was all "before you go off them, I'd just like you to do these 2 tests", and then Jo was told over the phone that she couldn't go off them just yet. We asked the question about having kids assuming Jo was going off the Warfarin, and he said he'd probably wait 6 months just to be on the safe side. With the continuation of the medication it became at least 6 months, but we started wondering what would happen if the next visit led to the same decision.

As it was, Jo got the all clear a couple of weeks ago, and is now allegedly no more at risk of blood clots than the general population. I find this a little hard to believe, and we're going to remain cautious, but it means we can start seriously thinking about kids. And Jo can booze it up for a small window of time between not drinking because it would have interacted with her medication, and not drinking due to pregnancy. So we're going to ask Jo's GP how long he thinks we should wait to ensure there is no risk of there being any warfarin in Jo's system, but all going well it won't be long. We'll let you know, please no Spanish Inquisition if Jo is noticed to not be drinking at some function or another!

See how easy it was to get an entry of substance out? I could go back and fill in the last 6 months, but I should leave enough gaps to give me a reason to be back here with another entry next Sunday!
