For the last 14 months I've wanted this for you.

You might be inclined to think that it was driven by guilt, or a desire to distance myself from feelings of responsibility or dependance. And I guess there could be some element of truth in there somewhere.

But I want you to know that more than anything it was driven by the fact that you are my friend and I want you to be happy. And I want you to know how much I want this to work for you and that I am happy for you.
